“Thomas Marriott is a truly great jazz trumpet player.”
Maynard Ferguson

Trumpeter Thomas Marriott is back with his follow up to last year's "Individuation," named one of the top 10 jazz releases of the year by Chicago's WBEZ radio. Featuring a stellar lineup of musicians including vibraphone master Joe Locke and veteran saxophonist Hadley Caliman, "Both Sides Of The Fence" explores original compositions by Marriott, reworked and spiced-up standards as well as jazz gems by Freddie Hubbard, Duke Ellington and Chick Corea.

Bopndick's 10 Picks (Dick Crockett)
What can you say about Thomas Marriott that says fabulous. This CD will more than make that claim. Marriott has a strong tone, great command and swings like...fabulously. Listen to his forceful attack right off on ìBoth Sides Of The Fence.î He's clear, precise, strictly down to business, the essence of hard bop swinging. The band of Marc Seales,...
All About Jazz / Seattle (Bill Barton)
In 1999 Thomas Marriott won the prestigious Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Competition sponsored by the International Trumpet Guild and the Herb Albert Foundation. Michael Caldwell wrote in the March 2000 International Trumpet Guild Journal: "[His] confident stage demeanor and intense interest in the rhythm section adds depth and chara...
Times Colonist, Saturday April 28 2007 (Joseph Blake)
A fixture at the annual Port Townsend Jazz Festival the last weekend in July, Seattle-based Thomas Marriott leads an outstanding band of Emerald City contemporaries on this collection of standards, seldom-played gems by Freddie Hubbard and Chick Corea, a stunning reading of Ellington's New World A Comin', Marriott original, and a seductive r...
The Davis Enterprise (Ric Bang)
I'm beginning to think Seattle has replaced Los Angeles as the focal point of the West Coast jazz scene. Almost half the releases I've received during the last year have featured artists or groups that have started in - or migrated to - that city. Trumpeter Thomas Marriott is one such individual. Although he played for years, he didn't become k...
All Music Guide (Ken Dryden)
Thomas Marriott's second recording is a thoroughly impressive affair, recorded over two studio sessions a few months apart. With a band including pianist Marc Seales, bassist Jeff Johnson, and drummer John Bishop, the leader kicks off the disc with "Both Sides of the Fence," a driving post-bop original that showcases his lyrical chops on flügelhorn...
Cadence, Oct-Nov 2007 (Jerome Wilson)
Trumpeter Thomas Marriott's CD is respectable small group work with a few surprises. Marriott has a soft, quiet sound that excels on slow, introspective pieces like Duke Ellington's "Mew World A Comin'" and glides beautifully on the more uptempo "Summer Night" where Marriott's rhythm section (Marc Seales, Jeff Johnson, and John Bishop) keep a livel...
